The Different Consumption Methods for Cannabis
For oral consumption, there’s a long list of edibles. Most people have heard of cannabis-infused brownies. That’s just the start. There are all sorts of baked goods, beverages, sweets, breath strips, and gummies that allow cannabinoids to be absorbed through the digestive tract. Because of the delayed onset and long-lasting effects, it’s a good idea to start slow, with a small portion, and wait for the full effects to kick in.
Tinctures are a sublingual option. With a few drops placed under the tongue and held there, the cannabinoids are absorbed through the blood vessels. Swallow the remaining liquid to absorb by way of the digestive tract. You’re taking advantage of two different absorption methods which allow for quick onset of effects as well as delayed impact.
Inhalation is a much broader category, including smoking and vaping. You’re absorbing active compounds such as THC into the bloodstream via the lungs, resulting in almost immediate effects. To smoke, you light cannabis flower and inhale. Pipes, water pipes (bongs & bubblers), joints, blunts, and pre-rolls are some of the ways to smoke. Vaping is a little different. A device heats cannabis flower or concentrate, transforming cannabinoids and terpenes into an inhalable vapor. There are vaporizers, vape pens that use cartridges and dabbing which require a glass, ceramic, or titanium nail to create a hot surface to turn concentrate into vapor.
